2021 was an incredibly odd year for fashion to say the least. With society still in an at-home mode as a direct result of the pandemic, leading to fashion trends existing between loungewear and leisurely attire, to full party mode. With the great influence of social media, fashion trends now change at such a rapid pace. In the old days, the latest fashion trends were gathered from watching runway shows or reading fashion magazines. While in today’s society, all we have to do is open our cellular device to find the latest fashion news. Social media influencers, models and most importantly, the Kardashians, indicate what is the new hot trend to follow by showcasing it on their media platforms.
After working at Nordstrom this past summer as a sales associate, I got a full behind-the-scenes look into the new, hot fashion trends of 2022. To start, the color of the summer, is bubblegum pink. This is a trend that I am not mad about at all. With the newfound love for Y2K fashion, hot pink has finally made its debut back into the world of fashion. After living in loungewear through a pandemic and multiple lockdowns, which has felt like a lifetime, the vibrancy and boldness that comes with the hue of bubblegum pink, is exactly what we need in our lives this year. Pink is by far my favorite color so to see Balenciaga basing their entire summer collection around it, was a dream come true. Say goodbye to the neutrals everyone is so comfortable in, and say hello to this punchy new color wave.
With the Kardashians taking over the entire digital and fashion world, they currently hold a great amount of the power to dictate the latest fashion trends. Kim Kardashian's multi-billion dollar company, SKIMS, has become one of the biggest and best brands in all of fashion. After spending a summer at Nordstrom, constantly staring Kim K's famous brand in the eye, I finally caved and bought some. I was so bewildered and completely shocked by how much I fell in love with the SKIMS products, and eventually, I even needed to buy more. The comfort and light-weightiness of the underwear and stretchy bodysuits are unmatched and create an effect that feels like I am not even wearing something. This affordable brand has mastered the comfort of shapewear and has created a whole new need for certain loungewear products such as the Cotton Rib Boxers.

Not only did Kim make boxers for women, but she made them comfortable and stylish. While some SKIMS products have created the most comfortable fashion trends of all time, there are a few collections that Kim should have taken another look at.
Between the trends of bright colors and powerful patterns, there is also a need for shimmer, shine, and everything glitter. Imagine every aspect of a disco ball, that is back in style. While I am all for anything sparkly and covered in rhinestones, I am not a big fan of the whole metallic look. I personally don't understand or feel the need to look like they are astronauts in space. Let's just say we are not N.A.S.A., and this trend should stay in space.
While 2021 was a rough year for the fashion industry, 2022 is bringing it back and better than ever with trends of bubblegum pink and loungewear for life.
