After highlighting trends, products, brands, and key lessons learned, I created this blog to share my radiant and bubbly voice with the world in a manner that demonstrates both my professionalism and how I can apply newfound knowledge and concepts I have learned throughout my time in the Fashion & Beauty Communications Milestone in a real-world setting. Specifically, highlighting one class that shaped the way I communicate as a fashion and beauty writer and content creator. I had the opportunity to take the five-week, one-credit course, MND 500: Fashion Writing/Content Creator this semester with teacher, Sharon Kanter, Senior Director, Editorial & Content Strategy at Stuart Weitzman. This course involved finding "your voice" and for the final class, each student presented a PowerPoint on what they think their voice is. After this course, I found my voice as a fashion and beauty blogger and learned how to apply it. Sharon describes both my writing style and my personality as ‘Radiant,’ which has always stuck with me and is something I always take into consideration while writing about the fashion and beauty industry. As this class resonated with me so much, I wanted to share how Sharon taught me to “Find My Voice.”
The first you must consider to embarking on your journey of finding your voice is questioning it as a whole and defining what voice even is. According to Sharon, “Voice is the way you express yourself through words and emotions. The tone of saying you use plays a large role.” Ask yourself, why am I passionate about writing and creating content about fashion and beauty? What truly excites me about fashion and beauty? Is it the transformative power of makeup? The thrill of discovering a hidden vintage gem? Identifying your passion will fuel your creative fire and guide your content. The next step is understanding your audience and identifying a target audience to help tailor your voice and content to resonate with their specific interests and needs. My target audience for this blog is both Gen-Z and millennials within the range of 15 to 35 years of age and a worldwide demographic. Therefore, the range of products, people, and brands I have mentioned throughout my blog is quite large as my ideal demographic consists of both a wide age and location range. Once I know who I am speaking to, I need to figure out why people should read or view my content over someone else's. I prioritize ethical fashion or self-love in the beauty industry, embracing your own inner, true beauty. Finding your unique angle will make you stand out.
Once you have the basic knowledge needed to start crafting your own voice, it is time to choose one overarching tone and three key aspects of it. Authenticity is key so never be afraid to be yourself! Your voice should be genuine, and relatable and reflect your personality. In terms of finding your tone, you must think about how you articulate and the message you want to get across. Are you playful and humorous? Informative and authoritative? Identifying your writing style helps establish a consistent and engaging voice. Finally, let your one-of-a-kind personality shine through your content. Every person has a unique way of thinking, expressing themselves, and living their life so never be afraid to share that with the world.
Now that I have explained how to find your voice, I will further explain mine. The reason I create content is to radiate the world of fashion and beauty, making it clear and easy for consumers to follow. I want to inform my audience as well as entertain them and keep them as energetic as possible. I write and create content because I want to bring positivity, happiness, and fun to my audience and create content that they enjoy viewing or reading. I want to show my audience bubbly, energetic, and fun content!
Remember, finding your voice is an ongoing process an experiment, exploration, that allows you to adapt your approach as you learn and grow. The most successful content creators cultivate voices that let their personality shine. So embrace your individuality, hone your skills, and share your unique perspective with the world. After explaining my own voice journey, the fashion and beauty blogosphere awaits your unique voice so go out there and make it heard! Always have your own voice, write however you want, and don't lose that.
